Our knowledge network which was established 8 years ago on 4 April 2018 receives a new financial injection for the coming years! The innovative research with three temporarily contracted postdocs in the period 2018-2021 has led to several projects on small radar satellite systems, mainly feasibility studies and critical components development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second financing allows us to continue to operate the network (hence NL-RIA 2.0) and once again perform innovative research with postdocs for future projects with cubesat sized small satellites, operating stand alone, in swarms, as aggregated systems or even constellations. Paco Lopez-Dekker is project manager for this round of activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not only the NL-RIA network is supported: the Dutch research council (NWO) together with the Netherlands Space Office (NSO) invests in two other projects to support existing knowledge networks. The aim is to continue the cooperation within these networks and to renew activities<\/a>. In this way the innovative knowledge base of the Dutch space sector is secured and expanded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the successful projects that were generated from previous NL-RIA research are SwarmSAR and Alticube+. SwarmSAR is currently studied under a contract with the Dutch MoD, whereas Alticube+ is in an ESA-financed phase A study after successful completion of the NL-RIA Alticube study.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alticube+ is a radar interferometer system to monitor Sea Surface Heights over the oceans, consisting of 5 cubesats aggregated in space. It is the tiny brother of the SWOT mission.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
